Abelia 'Rose Creek' flowering habit

Abelia 'Rose Creek' was the result of open pollination at the Center for Applied Nursery Research in Georgia, where it was also evaluated. It was named by Mark Griffith after a creek in Oconee County in Georgia.

It is a compact, dense, low-mounding shrub that grows about three to four feet tall by about three to four feet wide. It is hardy in USDA Zones 6 - 9. It is best grown in full sun to part shade. Here at Brookgreen Gardens, we have found A. 'Rose Creek' to generally be evergreen.

This cultivar is known for the following traits. It is compact, dense and low-mounding. Its stems are red. The foliage is glossy, button-like, and dark green, but new foliage emerges with a pink tint. Flowers, lasting from around May until frost, are pink-white in color with a mild fragrance. Sepals remain after the flowers and are pink.

Reversion may occur (branches that do not have the same characteristics as the rest of the plant), which should be pruned out.
